The One Where The 4th of July Gets Cancelled: Show Recs FY Holiday

Aaaand we’re back with some show recs! Because obviously you have nothing better to do this weekend. There have been so many new additions to all of the major streamers. We can’t wait to share our favorites from the past month.

Here’s what the sup, babe? squad has been binging:

Outer Banks

I might go so far as to say that this is one of the hottest casts to be on a TV show… anyone second that? This 10 episode 24-hour binge is very much needed right now. Mystery drama meets modern Romeo and Juliet meets treasure hunt on steroids… I mean… I’m sold. It is the perfect combination of a fun flirty summer and life goals with some nail biter suspense sprinkled in for good measure.

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga

This comedy musical is already considered a big hit. It’s a “music industry parody” and we’re LOVING it. Also, we can just never say no to Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams (AKA king and queen, thank you, thank you). The movie is about two washed up Icelandic singers who are given a shot to represent Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest, which, might we add, is actually a real thing. We’re here for it, and we think you will be too!

Space Force

Steve Carell just can’t fail. The show depicts a newly created branch of the United States Armed Forces: The Space Force. Carell plus his cast of characters (think: John Malkovich & Ben Schwartz) are an unlikely, disarming, wholesome combination.  Perfect way to cheer yourself up with everything happening in the world right now. Ps. Funny sidebar: Netflix beat the Government to some of the Space Force trademarks.  Pretty sure someone got fired for that.

Upload

With season two already approved and underway, this futuristic sci-fi comdram (is that a thing? A comedy drama… a dramedy, a comdram? ™ to sup, babe? I guess lol) is a show you definitely don’t want to miss. It’s an Amazon Original… okay Amazon sup, babe? sees you! This show will blow your mind with all the weird possibilities of the techy world we’ll be living in: lifelike afterworlds, cell phones that pop out of thin air, consent condoms, talking dog therapists and more.

Hollywood

We looove a miniseries. They’re short and sweet and perfect for a binge. With Broadway and TV all-stars like Patti LuPone, Darren Criss (*crush!*), David Corenswet (*major* crush!) and Jim Parsons, Hollywood is set in the post WWII entertainment industry and follows actors and filmmakers alike pursuing their dreams during Hollywood’s Golden Age. It also mirrors some present day racial justice issues, as they create the first ever film with a black female lead (which we’re told is based on a real story)

The Politician: Season 2

Two words: Ben. Platt. We love him. And he’s back for another season of The Politician! Each season brings on a new challenge in his political race to eventually become POTUS. The cast is loaded with Gwyneth Paltrow, Laura Dreyfuss, Jessica Lange and more. This show takes a well needed theatrical approach to politics, and it almost makes the topic exciting! Be prepared for a new side Gwyneth, lots of threesomes, gen z jokes and big belly laughs.

13 Reasons Why: Season 4

Ladies and Gentlemen, our last, but not least, recommendation is the latest season of 13 Reasons Why, and if you haven’t started the show yet, then the first season should be next on your to-do list! This high school teen drama was first a book, but the show has grown far beyond what was written in print. 13 Reasons Why covers hard-to-swallow topics, but there is no better time than now to tackle difficult problems. 11/10 would recommend!

Xoxo,
